Allstate Corp., is kick-starting some new efforts to attract motorcycle owners with the inception of Allstate.Garage.com, a website that provides safety tips, an events calendar, and suggested scenic rides for bikers.
An extension of an advertising campaign launched by the Northbrook, IL - based company, the site also uses their 600+ motorcycle-riding agents as another draw, with ride stories from bike owners, mechanical advice, and even a way to create a virtual motorcycle.
Lisa Jillson, a member of Allstate's marketing communication staff admits that even thoug motorcycle sales have tripled in the last ten years, with more than seven million registrations in the United States, her company's share is, "in the single digits but is definitely a growing market for us."
Jillson adds, "People who are into motorcycles not only have a connection to their bike but also to each other, and they want to share their passion."
Unlike automobile insurance, there is no standard reporting method for market share of motorcycle insurance. Currently Progressive claims to be the largest motorcycle insurer in the U.S., but won't reveal it's market share, while State Farm estimates that it has about 15% of the market.
